Zufall und Stille spielen bei John Cage eine wichtige Rolle. Am Schluss seiner „Lecture on Nothing“ schreibt er: „All I know about method is that when I am not working, I sometimes think I know something, but when I am working, it is quite clear that I know nothing.“
Für mich hat das Nichts etwas zu tun mit dem Zufall – nicht gesuchte oder erzwungene
Begegnungen, sondern etwas, das C. G. Jung als Symbolische Resonanz bezeichnet.
So ist mir der Mäander zugefallen: als ein Symbol, das zum Innehalten verhilft und zum Nachdenken, wie es weitergehen soll. Ausgeführt in einem „nichtigen“ Material: Erde, Regenwurmerde.
Blattgold ist mit im Spiel, weil dieses „Nichtige“ unsere Lebensgrundlage darstellt, das nicht künstlich herstellbar ist.
Nothing
Chance and silence play an important role in John Cage’s work. At the end of his “Lecture on Nothing”, he writes: “All I know about method is that when I am not working, I sometimes think I know something, but when I am working, it is quite clear that I know nothing.”
For me, nothingness has something to do with chance – not sought-after or forced
encounters, but something that C. G. Jung refers to as ‘symbolic resonance’.
This is how the meander came to me: as a symbol that helps us to pause and reflect on how to proceed. Executed in a ‘nothingness’-like material: earth, earthworm castings.
Gold leaf also features, because this “insignificant” element represents the very foundation of our lives – something that cannot be artificially produced.
